The Olympic Spirit Ride: Ride for the Olympic Rings

The Olympic Spirit represents the pinnacle of athletic achievement, embodying the dedication, resilience, and unyielding commitment of athletes all over the world. Olympians train tirelessly, driven by the dream of standing on the podium with a medal that symbolizes years of sacrifice and perseverance. This journey demands an unwavering commitment to a training regimen, the patience to endure setbacks, and the mental fortitude to overcome obstacles and suffering.

In the Olympic Spirit Ride, we honor these qualities by challenging ourselves through five distinct efforts, each highlighting the skills and athletic attributes required for different Olympic events. As you progress through each segment, your riders will earn a different colored Olympic ring, symbolizing their journey of endurance, tenacity, and triumph.

This profile begins with a 13-minute tempo segment at a Z3 effort in the saddle, focusing on technique, relaxation, and the mental fortitude required for patience and commitment. While not physically demanding, it challenges riders to resist the urge to push too hard too soon and to stay seated and focused, ultimately strengthening their mental resilience and discipline. For some of your riders, this may represent the biggest challenge of the ride!

Next, experience the camaraderie and intensity of a relay with anaerobic (Z6) intervals, pushing your limits in a team effort. Then, move into an 8-minute threshold ride, reminiscent of a time trial or short triathlon, where mental strength and strategic pacing are key. The penultimate test requires you to push your speed, agility, and tenacity by pedaling at 103 rpm just below threshold for nearly 4 minutes.

In the fifth and final segment, embrace the thrill and intensity of sprinting, one of the most iconic and exhilarating aspects of athletic endeavors, whether it be cycling, running, or swimming. You’ll ask your class to feel the surge of power and experience the rush of adrenaline as you push your body to its limits, drawing inspiration from the greatest athletes in Olympic history.
