🍫 Theme Ride Thursday: National Chocolate Day…Add a Sweet Touch to Your Ride

It might be a bit over-the-top to build an entire ride around chocolate, but as a proud chocoholic, I must pay tribute to my favorite treat for National Chocolate Day on July 7! So that week, I’m sprinkling a few cocoa-inspired tracks into class to celebrate the sweet stuff.

Fun facts:

  • The Aztecs valued cacao beans so much that they used them as currency.

  • Theobroma cacao, the scientific name for the cacao tree, means “food of the gods.” Enough said.

I’ve made bucket playlists for just about everything (seriously—you’d be surprised), but even I have to draw the line somewhere…and a full chocolate playlist might be a step too far. 🍫😄 That said, if you’re craving more sweet-themed songs, check out our extensive “Sweet” and “Candy” bucket playlists here. You can also use my Sweetest Sweet Spot profile—a ride built around long, steady intervals and songs celebrating all things sugary…yes, including chocolate.

Here are three delicious tracks you can slip into your playlist:

Chocolate, The 1975, 3:44, 100 bpm
Perfect for a cadence drill. Ride the beat at 100 rpm and focus on smooth, efficient form. The repeated line “We’re never gonna quit” is a great mantra—whether for working on your fitness or your love of chocolate!

Chocolate, Charlie’s Factory, 2:03, 154 bpm
A short, high-energy burst! Use it as a fun recovery after the 1975 song or highlight it as a 2-minute anaerobic interval. Either way, it’s a lighthearted nod to the theme. (This one shows up as a recovery in my Sweetest Sweet Spot profile.)

Chocolate, Kylie Minogue & A. Guevara, 5:01, 93 bpm
Smooth and silky, this track is perfect for a warm-up or steady-state endurance effort. Let riders tune into their pedal stroke and settle in—it’s chocolate for the ears and the legs.

Because yes—you can have your chocolate and ride to it too. 🍫🚴‍♀️💪
