While searching for a Halloween song I saw suggested on Twitter, I hit pay dirt. I unearthed a slew of eerily awesome songs that work perfectly for cycling classes. Yes, they actually have a great beat, not just shrieks and screams. You can now say to your students (as I did in my Halloween newsletter), “I promise not to play Monster Mash and Thriller this year!” While I do have my favorites that I tend to use year after year, I get really tired of certain songs used in theme rides, especially the cheesy ones (although admittedly, there is a time and a place for them)! In the case of Halloween, for me at least, that would include Thriller, Monster Mash, Phantom of the Opera, Batman, Sugar Sugar, and many others. So I’ve been on the lookout for new and unusual theme music to give to you. I posted my Halloween list of 240 songs a few days ago, but since then I’ve unearthed (pun intended) some unbelievably perfectly morose songs for cycling classes. You can thank some very late nights for that! 😉
As a result, my Halloween song list is starting to explode. Here are several of the best ones I’ve discovered in the past 24 hours, as well as some tips on searching for them yourself. That is, if you’re like me and don’t want the standard Halloween playlist every other class/party/store is playing this week.
This first one is hard to find but I can see it becoming a staple of my Halloween theme rides—it’s that good. Believe me, I searched everywhere wanting to give them my money for this song. I eventually found it on a free downloading site, but since it was not available anywhere to purchase as an mp3, I went ahead and downloaded it. You’ll have to decide if you want to do that or not (Google it). Amazon does have it for purchase as in import CD. Perhaps over in Europe it’s easier to purchase (European ICA members, let me know if you find it. I’m just curious.)
