Yes, as indoor cycling instructors, we need to stand up for fun. You know, as in, stand up for having fun in our classes. We also need to stand up, as in, stand up on the bike, for fun. We at ICA approach much of what we do with a mindset of its effectiveness when riding outdoors. This is not a bad thing. But what if we just wanted to do something because it was fun? Standing on the bike definitely fits into this category. Riding out of the saddle is fun and exciting! In addition to raising the heart rate, standing can be exhilarating because it requires more energy and more body movement. It may not fully engage all the muscles of the body or provide a full-body workout, but it does get the entire body involved in the ride and that simply feels good.
