Last year, I was in New York and had the pleasure of taking Michael Reilly’s class at Equinox. Michael has been an instructor since 1997 and is one of the original members of the Indoor Cycling Association (thank you, Michael!). It was the day before one of the big American holidays that serves as an entrée to summer, Memorial Day. Michael did a Memorial Day ride that was very moving and I wanted to share these videos with you. Pay attention to his coaching—he’s got a great way of engaging his audience.Read more…
Julianne has created an outstanding profile targeting Zone 5, the training zone that helps improve the body’s VO2 max. VO2 max is the highest volume of oxygen your body is able to process and convert to energy, which is enhanced by better breathing techniques. During this ride, we’ll build a pyramid in Egypt; ride away from the havoc, chaos, and disasters caused by the 10 plagues; and then cross the Red Sea as it parts, all while being chased by Egyptians.Read more…
The Tour of the Training Zones is one of the most important profiles in the ICA library. It’s a very educational profile that requires more talking than most profiles. For that reason, to help you teach it to your own classes, I’ve filmed myself teaching this ride so you can hear my cueing and how I deal with the intensity myself. I also have a summary of the profile cues that you can download and modify.Read more…
This Quick Profile channels the power of inspiring women while riders hold a steady-state effort in Zone 3. The challenge will be both physical and mental as you hold an effort straight through for about 40 minutes without recovery. Staying strong, focused, and in control, you will build both aerobic power and endurance.Read more…
This profile will take riders out of the cycling room to explore outer space. All that’s required is a vivid imagination and enough power in their legs to propel them through space. As with any journey ride, it enables the instructor to use their creativity to transport their participants from the mundane bike studio to someplace interesting and unusual. But like every other profile, it still has a purpose…Read more…
This quick profile consists of four 6.5-minute intervals, each an intensity ladder performed in a different cadence range. This ride gives students an opportunity to understand how the same zone can feel very different when performed at a different cadence. Read more…
